The 2025 Brit Awards are shaping up to be the Charli xcx show, as the pop superstar leads this year’s nominations with a stunning five nods. Charli’s acclaimed 2024 album “Brat” has propelled her to the forefront, earning her nominations for Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Song of the Year for the Billie Eilish collaboration “Guess (Remix).”
Charli will face stiff competition, however, as several other acts have secured impressive hauls. Dua Lipa, the Last Dinner Party, Ezra Collective, and rising star Myles Smith all landed four nominations each, trailing closely behind xcx.
Notably, while Charli’s dominance has painted the Brits a “violent shade of lime green,” the awards have once again highlighted the gender imbalance that persists in the British music industry. Women account for just 34.7% of the 98 total nominations, with male acts comprising over half.
Still, there are some bright spots for female representation. Raye, last year’s major winner, is nominated for R&B Act. And in the closely watched Rising Star category, Myles Smith was named the winner, with the industry tipping him for big things.
Other interesting storylines emerge from this year’s Brit nominations. Veteran acts like the Beatles and The Cure have earned their first nods in decades, signaling a resurgence of classic British sounds. Meanwhile, London jazz collective Ezra Collective could be set for a breakthrough, building on their 2023 Mercury Prize win.
