Big Sean recently responded to the allegations of swiping another artist’s style in his new single. After dropping his “Yes” music video, fans wasted no time taking to social media to say Sean had infringed on up-and-coming rapper Baby Keem’s style. Comments accusing Sean of ripping off Keem’s cadence gained traction online.
Later that night, Sean tweeted mysteriously about how people weren’t used to how he creates. Fans tried to tie the situation back to beef from years ago between Sean and his labelmate Kendrick Lamar, who happens to be Keem’s cousin. But Sean told a radio host last week he had squashed things with Lamar after a leaked verse from years ago caused a quick dust-up.
In the unearthed recording, Lamar took apparent shots at Sean’s career trajectory and musical talents. However, Sean stated they had privately resolved any issues, and he currently maintains respectful relationships across the hip-hop community that has supported his work over the years.
The rollout for Sean’s sixth solo project, Better Me Than You, was delayed from its initial release date this month. He has yet to come out and disclose a new timeline, but the rapper certainly exudes confidence in his abilities and original artistry despite certain accusations made by some online critics that he is not an original.
