Megan Thee Stallion is adding advocate for youth mental health to her growing list of accomplishments. The Grammy award-winning artist has partnered with the California Department of Public Health to launch the “Never a Bother” campaign in honor of World Mental Health Day.
Through a deeply personal video shared on her social platforms, Megan opens up about her struggles with mental health and why she thinks the topic deserves more public discussion. “It took me a long time to be comfortable talking about my mental health”, she says in the short PSA. But seeking help gave her tools to cope and now she wants to help others know it’s ok not to go through hard times alone.
Her message to young fans, known as “Hotties”, is that their struggles do not make them a burden. The “Never a Bother” is the campaign slogan in tune with Megan’s supportive tone. The video directs viewers to the Never a Bother website for more resources.
The site aims to raise awareness of suicide, the second leading cause of death for California youth according to state studies. Real stories and downloadable materials offer guidance on intervention and where to turn in times of crisis.
Megan knows the impact of open dialogue, having founded her own nonprofit Pete and Thomas Foundation focused on vulnerable communities. Her passion to see more accessible support is a driving force behind partnering with state leaders through the Youth Behavioral Health Initiative.
If her fans and beyond listen to her message of empowerment through empathy, this collaboration could help many find the strength to speak up when facing troubles of the mind.
