The 2023 Billboard Music Awards saw some major artists dominating in their genres. Morgan Wallen had an incredibly successful year that was recognized with 11 wins, the most by any artist in a single year since Drake’s 12 wins in 2019.
Wallen swept the top country categories, winning awards for top country artist, album for “One Thing at a Time,” song for “Last Night,” and tour. This puts him at 15 career wins, second only to Garth Brooks in wins among country acts.
Taylor Swift continued extending her record tallies, tying Drake with her third win for top artist. She also earned her sixth win for top Billboard 200 artist and fifth for top female artist. This brings her career total to 39 BBMAs, tying her with Drake as the artist with the most wins.
Rapper Drake continued his dominance in the rap field, extending his record with a fifth win for top rap artist. He also won for his collaboration album and song with 21 Savage.
SZA and Zach Bryan both had breakout years, with SZA picking up awards across the R&B categories for her album and song “Kill Bill.” Bryan scored wins including top rock artist and album for “American Heartbreak.”
Several artists picked up multiple trophies, including Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, 21 Savage, and Bad Bunny. Beyoncé tied Carey and Houston for the most wins by a woman of color at 16 total.
The 2023 Billboard Music Awards, hosted on Billboard’s YouTube channel and digital platforms, honored the biggest achievements in music over the past year. It provided a platform for the industry’s leading talents to shine as they topped the charts.
